The challenge

A patio too big for any umbrella.

A space that big isn't an umbrella problem, and the family also didn't want to give up the open sky. The wife wanted to still see the stars from her hot tub.

The response

Sun, shade, or stars on demand.

We built a Roman shade sail over 13 feet wide and extending 25 feet, in Sunbrella, intentionally pitched so water runs off instead of pooling. The system retracts, so the family gets sun, shade, or open sky on demand.
