A new backyard gets its shade.

Natural-toned triangle sail shading the turf, with the pool beyond
Private residence, Central Austin. Triangle sail over the turf yard, September 2026.

The challenge

Extra shade for the family pet.

Collective Creative Outdoors had taken on a full backyard renovation for this Central Austin home, and new turf between the house, the garage, and the pool was one part of it. The homeowners wanted to add some extra shade for their pet, a comfortable place to rest out of the afternoon sun. They wanted a light, natural-toned sail that would blend with the new yard, and the house and garage were already right where the corners needed to go.

The response

Three corners, no new posts.

We set pad-eye anchors on the house eave and the garage, measured eye to eye, and had the sail built to fit. The original plan was a long, narrow triangle, so we moved the house-side corner a little toward the pool to even out the shape: the closer a triangle gets to equilateral, the more evenly it tensions and the better it holds its shape. The high corner on the house gives the fabric the slope it needs to stay taut. Stainless D-rings and shackles finish the corners, the seams are sewn with GORE Tenera thread, and a turnbuckle fine-tunes the tension. One installer had it up in a morning.

That's the trade model: Collective Creative Outdoors designs the space, we bring the shade.
